When I was a little girl I loved drawing my family and comic book characters. I vaguely remember drawing houses with a roof with a chimney because how else is Santa us presents to the projects in Brooklyn. What was more important to me however was having a house where both of my Grandmothers lived were I can see them and receive their love and wisdom. This is a homage to them and my day dreaming as a child.</image:caption>

I’ve picked up the pieces countless times and kept going because life is much more than the problems of my world. I learned that life is what I make of it. I have to take the good with the bad. <image:caption>5.5 x 8.5 Watercolor on paper It was the 80s in NYC. Bright lights, peep shows, drugs and porn was watched in adults only theaters. There was no Disney or many attractions for family. I can recall going walking around 42nd street and seeing these women dressed with fur coats and fishnet stockings, walking up to cars. I asked the adults who they were and they would say ladies of the night. In other words prostitutes and now sex workers. Times changed. NYC changed. Sex work has changed. I still remember these women of the night and paint them as I remember them. Give them a face if they ever felt faceless. They’re women. They’re human. They live on in my mind and work.</image:caption>

I love women and being a woman. As a Latina and woman I find it difficult sometimes to find my place in the art world. I come as I am and you can take it or leave it. I grew up on comic books, video games, anime, cartoons and I often find myself (even at 41) drawing inspiration from them either consciously or subconsciously.
